We headed to Woodward Lakes and Lodges to find out what it’s like from someone who does!

Woodward Lakes and Lodges is a stunning park sitting in 300 acres of land, thoughtfully developed to a high standard as a mixture of beautiful lakes, open grassland and lodge areas. Lodges are grouped in clusters all appropriately named after birds which live on the park, and they all have great views.

Facilities on-site include a 9 – hole golf course, boules court, bowling greens, tennis court and a 43-acre well-stocked fishing lake of specimen species, all easy and quiet activities, which should give you a good feel for this peaceful park.

There are several beautiful show lodges here to choose from in different spots around the park and many of them lakeside, but there’s also a unique opportunity for you to design, build and take ownership of your very own luxury dream holiday lodge, working with park sales manager Julie Lench and Prestige Homeseeker Park and Leisure Homes, who build the lodges here.

The park has a 12-month holiday licence, so you’ll be able to enjoy staying at any time of year, and you’ll get brilliant value for money as the lodges are accessible in price for such a stunning park, or if you have a little spare budget you could go for quite a palatial lodge option!  Committed to environmental excellence, the park has repeatedly won the coveted and prestigious David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation and the enchantment of sitting in what feels like a nature reserve has a magnetic pull for many who find themselves buying here.

Most lodges are occupied by owners who spend a good amount of time in them, so the park has a great sense of community without everyone being in each other’s pockets, that’s a perfect balance. It’s safe too, with a gated entrance and 24-hour security, so there’s a real sense of freedom once you’re in the park grounds.

Lodges here are self-contained units perfect for self-catering, and being on a secure, gated park they offer the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, without worrying about who you will bump into. Although lodge owners here are friendly, you have all the space in the world to do your own thing here without stress.  In fact, it’s almost impossible not to relax at this location!

Lynda Kenny and her husband Chris have recently taken ownership of a stunning Prestige lodge at Woodward, on a prime position overlooking the main lake.  It’s fair to say that in Lynda’s work as a Certified High Performance Coach, she knows a thing or two about how to make good things happen, and has obviously put that into practice in her own life, too – this being a prime example!Lynda and Chris have been so pleased with their lodge that, like other owners on the park, they’ve now bought a second next to it as an investment opportunity.

Their lodge has one of the most extensive decking areas we’ve seen, and more recently, the addition of a hi-tech hot-tub has added to their very stunning domain even further, so it’s fair to say they’re very happy with their lodge and the park environment so far, and are enthusiastic ambassadors for ownership here.  We spoke to Lynda to find out more;

How did you first come across the park, and were you actively looking for a lodge at that time?

We knew about the park’s existence a few years ago but at the time we had just rebuilt our house in England and we were also living at our second home in Portugal.  After 14 years there we really wanted to be back in England and so we remembered Woodward Lakes and Lodges. We came for a visit in spring 2018 and we fell in love with it.

What sold it to you?

The peaceful surroundings, the lake and the wildlife.  24 hour security was very appealing and the walks we could do with our three dogs. We are also just minutes away from my Dad and just a few miles away from my children and grandchildren.  Even though its in a lovely quiet spot, you are minutes away from amenities and the motorway.

Was there anything which surprised you particularly?

What surprised us the most was how well it’s all designed and taken care of.  Well laid out grounds, the trees and grassed areas. The friendliness of others who own lodges here too.

Was yours a bespoke lodge, and how did the process of choosing it work for you?

Ours is a bespoke lodge and the process was so smooth.  We had help from Julie in designing the interior layout and also taking into account where the lodge was going to be placed on the plot so we got full advantage of the lake views and our privacy.  In fact Julie suggested flipping it around ie having the lounge the other way around. She has been amazing – really helpful and friendly and when it arrived It was perfect. We went to Prestige headquarters to pick our colour scheme and what we wanted inside. It was so easy and very exciting as well.

Can you describe how it felt to get the keys, and what it feels like to spend time in?

Oh my, the day we got the keys we were beside ourselves with excitement.  We had been dreaming of what it would be like and its totally lived up to our expectations.  We absolutely love it.

I know you decided to go for a really stunning decking area and hi-tech hot-tub – where’s your happiest spot?

Due to us having a lake view we wanted the decking to be the full length of the lodge so we could sit any time of day or night and have a wonderful view all around.  The hot tub has been something I wanted forever. I have rheumatoid arthritis and so I knew it would benefit me health-wise as well. In Portugal, we had our own swimming pool but I LOVE the hot tub more.  We both chill out and look at the view.  Our hot-tub came from Mr Hot tubs, and Sunny Decks installed the decking on both our lodges.

Why did you decide on the second lodge, and how would anyone who would like to stay in it book it?

The plot next door to us was vacant and we thought why not have a second one for when we have our friends and family visit and also rent it out so someone else can have a taste of this fabulous place, especially if they want to escape the rat race of “normal” life.   It seemed to make perfect sense to us. The lodge is a Prestige Buckland and quite different to ours.  Its open plan and has all the comforts you need, with lovely furniture and a well-equipped kitchen and utility room.  I love going in there to check everything.  I intend to put it on AirBnb once it’s ready, plus I am on social media a lot so I may put it on there too.

What are you now enjoying most about the park?

The peace, the lake views, the space in the lodge.  It’s easy to keep clean too. We just love being surrounded by nature and like to hear the geese and watch the swans every day.

What do your friends and family think of it?

They love it and fully intend to take advantage of the lodge next door.  My daughter would love to be here all the time!

What do you like about the local area?

It has lots of shopping nearby, pubs and restaurants.  We are close to Doncaster Racecourse and Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Plus it’s 5 minutes from the motorway, even though you can’t hear it, so you can get anywhere quite quickly.

What would you say to anyone thinking of buying here?

I would highly recommend the lifestyle – the lodges are amazing and they want peace, quiet and love wildlife then they definitely should!

Lodges here start from £99,950 and can be designed to suit your budget.  A new development has just been established here comprising of six lodges, all facing south-west and with lovely views across a small lake and out to the rest of the park.
