Lindholme Lakes lies on the border of south Yorkshire and Lincolnshire in the, uniquely insular area of the isle of Axholme. This area is on the Eastern boundary of Hatfield Chase, once the great hunting estate of the Stuart Kings, and as you approach the park the feeling you get is of wide-open skies, vast landscapes and sheer space. It’s the perfect spot for rest and relaxation, and you don’t even have to be an avid angler to appreciate it although if you are, you’ll already know that it’s known as one of the finest fisheries in the area!

The park is a family business, and Neil, Beverley and Aaron Grantham are currently developing the park on one side to add a further lodge development, Oak View, where 24 new lodges will be set on a new ‘island’ section looking out across water and towards woodland. The lake margins support a great deal of wildlife with variety of water birds, visiting species and game, and it’s an obvious haven for flora and fauna.

The grounds of the wider park are quiet vast, with several large lakes offering angling opportunities and pretty busy. Most of these are set away from the lodges, which all have their own fishing swims and a residents-only lake, so while the park is large, it also has a quiet secluded feel from the lodge areas. There are facilities on site in the form of a café open from 7am until mid-day, and from 3-6pm on Saturdays for hot snacks and sandwiches. A new café is currently being built, and this family team doesn’t hang about so that looks as though it’s going to be a fantastic addition to the facilities. Known as Drennan Lindholme Lakes, this spot is a regular choice for Fish O’Mania, Maver Match This and the Angling Trust National Championships, visited by some of the biggest names in the sport such as Alan Scotthorne, Tommy Pickering and Bob Nudd. There’s a fishery tackle shop next to the current café in a central position, offering a comprehensive stock of tackle and bait, and in addition to the nine fish-filled lakes there are two dedicated stock ponds ensuring the fishing scene is kept to standard. It’s fair to say that if you’re into your fishing, this is a real destination which must be visited, and there’s even tuition available if you fancy giving it a go for the first time!

A wide variety of lodge from the Omar Group are available here, including both Omar and Wessex ranges, and if you want a lodge built with a bespoke element then the park and manufacturer are happy to accommodate those wishing to personalise their lodges in this way. While most of the lodge area is well established, sold and looking very settled, at the new Oak View Lake Development, single or twin units are available and prices range from £79,950 through to £139,000. That includes a wood effect UPVC decking area, and all have water frontage gardens laid to lawn with shrubs. There’s a 12- month holiday season so they can be enjoyed at any time of year subject to the license conditions, and all are supplied by the Omar Group who build to BS3632:2015 as standard, so they’ll be nice and cosy even in winter!

For those wanting to test the water as such, then a short stay at Lindholme Lakes makes a great try-before-you-buy opportunity. Others with less of an interest in angling may simply want to stay for a quiet weekend of rest and recuperation, to chill in the hot-tubs while watching the wildlife and reading a good book. There are many anglers who apparently use the lodge accommodation to stay in while matches take place too, so they can come back to a luxurious environment to get set for the next day’s activities!

There are four luxury lodges with hot-tubs and options include lodges with four single beds or two single beds and a double, so they present a variety of solutions for families or couples. Aptly named Fox, Hedgehog, Squirrel and Deer View, they reflect perfectly how the setting here blends with nature.
