Book a trip to Woodward today!

Sometimes the wealth of choice on offer if you’re looking for a lodge can be overwhelming.

That may be the time when you simply need to treat yourself to a break, reboot and recharge your batteries a little without having to think too hard.  At Woodward Lakes and Lodges you can do that while also enjoying a bit of lodge life in the process, as editor Bella Brodie reports.

The park sits in 300 acres of land which has been very thoughtfully developed to a high standard as a mixture of beautiful lakes, open grassland and lodge areas.  Lodges are grouped in clusters all appropriately named after birds which live on the park, and they all have great views.  Committed to environmental excellence, the park has repeatedly won the coveted and prestigious David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation.

Most lodges are occupied by owners who spend a good amount of time in them, so the park has a great sense of community without everyone being in each other’s pockets, that’s a great balance.  It’s safe too, with a gated entrance and 24 hour security, so there’s a real sense of freedom once you’re in the park grounds.

NEW FOR 2019!

A new development has just been established here comprising of six lodges, all facing south-west and with lovely views across a small lake and out to the rest of the park.

For lodge owners hosting friends and family or wanting to sub-let their lodge the park has a truly magnetic pull, providing a real escape from everyday life which will make visitors want to keep coming back. We can see how the location would really appeal to anyone who loves exploring the UK as it makes a great half-way point to travel either way, or if you have friends or family at the opposite end of the UK then it would make a good place to stay to catch up, enjoying quality time together in the process.  For those who want to reconnect with nature, it’s perfect. Robin Hood Airport, Doncaster and Leeds city centre are all in easy striking distance so you won’t have far to go to find good amenities, restaurants and shops if you need a bit of activity, and we enjoyed visiting Yorkshire Wildlife Park and the Yorkshire Ice Cream farm and play area, both huge hits with our family.

Facilities on site include a 9 – hole golf course, boules court, bowling greens, tennis court and a 43 acre well stocked fishing lake of specimen species, all easy and quiet activities, which should give you a good feel for this peaceful park.   Off-road cycle routes and meandering nature trails lead to a nearby wildlife park and another nature reserve.    There are several beautiful show lodges here to choose from in different spots around the park and many of them lakeside, but there’s also a unique opportunity for you to design, build and take ownership of your very own luxury dream holiday lodge, working with park sales manager Julie Lench and Prestige Homeseeker Park and Leisure Homes, who build the lodges here.  The park has a 12-month holiday licence, so you’ll be able to enjoy staying at any time, and you’ll get brilliant value for money as the lodges are accessible in price for such a stunning park, or if you have a little spare budget you could go for quite a palatial lodge option!

There’s an unpressurised approach to sales here and buyers here find that refreshing as it allows them to explore the park in their own time in a relaxed way. In fact, some of the owners here love it so much, they ended up buying more than one lodge at Woodward – we think that speaks volumes!  You can pop in to the park office at any time to find out more, but they’ll also be holding an open weekend this year which is a great opportunity to explore at your leisure. The open weekend is Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September, from 10 am to 6pm each day.

Two of the owners who bought their second lodge as investment options sub-let through Air B&B and manage them themselves, using their first lodge as the base to do that from.  So, if you’re thinking of buying or just want a quick getaway as you can try before you buy easily here by booking one of these beautiful lodges – we don’t think you’ll regret it, and it’s the best way to get a real feel for lodge life and potential ownership.

We stayed in a stunning Prestige Homeseeker Navigator model called Sandpiper Lodge, owned by Denise and Mike Hubbard, who also own a bespoke lodge just across the lake from it.  This was absolutely immaculate, coming complete with hot-tub and plenty of extras to make our stay extra enjoyable.  As lodges go, the Navigator has a great layout, perfect for families or couples, and an uplifting interior design theme, which we really enjoyed. For much of our break we were on the decking, in and out of the hot-tub, and we all became totally absorbed by what was going on around us with flocks of Canada Geese flying over our lodge in formation, and discovering all the quirks and personalities of all the different species interacting on the lakes.

Denise and Mike were wonderful hosts and confessed that, although they bought the lodge to sub-let, they hadn’t realised it would be as popular as it is.  No doubt that’s largely due to the fact that a large proportion who’ve stayed book a prompt return as they love it so much!  We’ve booked to do exactly that ourselves so can relay this from experience, we absolutely can’t wait to get back to Woodward!

Nature lovers Catherine and Tony also have two lodges here and let their Crackatinnie lodge out so were also so enchanted with the park that they bought twice.  Catherine says; “We have witnessed many visitors to our lake including heron, little egrets, an osprey, many different species of ducks. We have our own resident kestrel that hovers right outside our lodge every day and is always catching voles. We see numerous types of fish swimming on the lake and every now and again a lucky angler pulls one out.  Who knew when we first bought our lodge that we would have so much fun watching the wildlife.’   While at the park we popped to see Catherine and Tony a couple of times, catching up over a leisurely coffee on their extensive decking, which has several different seating areas all perfect for different times of day.  Could we imagine ourselves as owners here?  Absolutely… we made that coffee last a long time and thoroughly enjoyed every moment!
