Quietly confident, classy and chic, Wessex’s Contemporary holiday lodge is a delight to the eye and a popular choice with buyers. So if you’re thinking of buying a lodge, make sure it’s on your list to look at.

Since re-launching in 2014, The Contemporary has sold well, maintaining its position as a leader in the luxury lodge stakes.

A lodge to fall in love with

This is a benchmark lodge for luxury, and once you’ve looked at it you won’t want to settle for less.

It’s hard to see how anyone wouldn’t want to spend time in a Contemporary, either as an owner or when enjoying a break at one of the UK’s best parks.

Nathalie Montague, sales manager for Wessex commented: “Visitors always love the Contemporary. It’s very practical but with lots of character…in fact I’ d love to spend a holiday in one myself!”

External features

The front elevation is fully glazed, with an extended soffit overhang making room for the integrated soft down lighting. In the evening this creates an ambience on the decking which will make the most of long summer evenings and dining al fresco.

The lodge is available in a range of claddings, Cedar giving it a stunning look, as shown above. There are two double French patio doors at the front, designed to make the most of a lovely park environment.

Internal layout

The Contemporary is architecturally pleasing with a personality all of its own, as exemplified by its interior beam work. Its tried and tested layout and light and bright décor create subtle touches and an uncluttered feel.

The open plan living space incorporates a lounge, dining and kitchen areas. White-panelled, vaulted ceilings run throughout the lodge, just one of many major advantages over more standard lodges. Floors are kitted out underfoot with hessian-backed carpet with underlay to the lounge, dining area, hall and bedrooms.

The living area and bedrooms have fully lined Roman blinds and curtains, with Venetian blinds in the bathroom and en-suite.

Living, kitchen and dining area

The large open-plan living space, has architectural feature beams and carefully chosen furnishings in soft blues. These give a relaxed, and slightly nautical feel.

The white panelled vaulted ceiling enhances the light and feeling of space. Comfortable sofas, a stylish dining suite, large breakfast bar and a fully equipped kitchen add practicality, character and charm.

To the right is a panel of tall cupboards which provide a utility area and additional storage space. Integrated appliances and gadgets are housed discretely between this and the main kitchen space.

These include a fridge-freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, oven, extractor and 4-burner hob – a pretty comprehensive list. The kitchen also has a large work surface which doubles as a breakfast bar/workstation.

Soft lighting at floor level and from the top units create a lovely environment in the evenings. Also good from a safety perspective!

The lounge and dining area furniture comprises a Willis and Gambier nest of tables, storage coffee table and extending dining table and chairs.  The colours and finish complement the kitchen and lodge décor really well.

The lounge has a contemporary wall-mounted fire with pebbles, and Devon-style two and three-seater sofas with scatter cushions. Both of these items exude quality.

The Contemporary bathroom packs a design punch with some great feature tiling. Heated towel rails and wall-hung vanity units, ensure an upmarket hotel-suite bathroom effect. Albeit lighter and brighter than most!

The bedrooms are where you really feel this lodge has been designed to run seamlessly from end to end. Each is furnished in soft blues and fresh whites and have the same relaxed feel as the living area.

Each bedroom has freestanding Willis & Gambier beds and bedside tables – very pretty and tasteful. Feature wallpaper behind each bedstead adds a rustic, beachy feel, and the blinds scream quality and taste.

The bedrooms have fitted wardrobes with sliding doors, and co-ordinated bed sets, duvets and scatter cushions complete the scene beautifully.

The second and third bedrooms are light and airy, and equipped with two single beds each. Once again there’s no compromise on luxury, with plush carpets underfoot. Ornamental window sills complete the solid and homely feel.

As bedrooms go, these would suit grown-ups as much as children, so teenagers won’t feel out of place, whilst little ones will feel all grown up!

A beautifully light room, the master bedroom has plenty of windows. There is wardrobe space to the left, and the en-suite can be found concealed behind sliding mirrored doors. Our verdict on the Contemporary

This lodge isn’t just a pretty face – there’s substance behind its luxury label. Every comfort has been taken into consideration, and the lodge will continue to grow on you once you’re in. That’s the mark of a really well-designed quality lodge, and the Contemporary is sure to stand the test of time.

We have liked all previous versions of the Contemporary but this one is super-cool in its almost-nautical blues. At the quality end of the marketplace, the bedrooms can sometimes let a lodge down, but not here.

Contemporary bedrooms are not cramped little afterthoughts, but luxurious and tempting instead. Attention-to-detail not only gives this model a lead, but ensures that its popularity will continue with each refresh.

Size and layout

This 45 x 20 model has an open plan living area that incorporates lounge, diner, kitchen and utility area, a family bathroom, three bedrooms and an en-suite shower room.

On selected floor plans there’s an option of a separate utility room. Another option is the Contemporary Vue, with a roof terrace accessed via an external spiral staircase.
