The Retreat Caravan Park is a family-run holiday park on the Somerset coast, where all the caravans are owner-occupied and an exciting new lodge development “The Paddocks” is now ready.

Family-owned for generations

In these days of large corporate-owned parks, it’s great to come across a holiday park that has been in the same family ownership for generations. This is the case at Retreat Caravan Park in the Somerset seaside town of Burnham-on-Sea.

The Jackson family acquired the park in 1947, and ran it as a touring caravan park. Over time it was developed into a holiday caravan park, with static caravans and a total of 200 pitches.

Retreat luxury lodge development planned

The big news at the moment is the new development for luxury lodges, in an area called The Paddocks. Here, owners can buy their own luxurious holiday lodge, with prices from just over £100,000.


As with the caravans on the rest of the park, the lodges will come with their own individual fenced-off garden areas, as well as large areas of decking.

Community atmosphere and great facilities

All of the holiday caravans and lodges are owner-occupied, with no rental caravans. This helps to maintain the peaceful and friendly character of the park, with holiday home owners usually knowing their neighbours.

Although all the caravans come with their own washroom facilities, the site owners still provide a modern washroom block, with disabled facilities.

There’s also a playground for children, as well as an indoor play centre. However, with the beach just a short walk away, on the other side of the sand dunes, most families spend their days on the beach.

The town centre of Burnham-on-Sea is within walking distance from the park, plus there are plenty of local supermarkets and places to eat out.

If you want to go further afield, Weston-Super-Mare is a 20-minute drive away, or you can use the local bus service to get there, with a bus stop near the entrance to the park.

There are plenty of other easy to reach attractions. Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge provide enough scenery and spectacle to keep all the family happy.

Holiday homes for sale

There’s always a good selection of new and used holiday caravans for sale. Plus, the new lodge development enjoys a lovely secluded spot on the park, with luxury lodges starting from £105,000 and come with decking and plus their own fenced-off gardens.

Used holiday caravans are available from under £10,000, with new ones ranging between £30,000 and £70,000.

As an example, when we visited a new 32ft x 12, two-bedroom Willerby Avonmore holiday caravan was for sale at £39,250.

On the new lodge development, there was a new 40ft x 20, two-bedroom Willerby Clearwater Lodge for sale at £105,000, as well as a new 40ft x 20 two-bedroom Victory Versailles Lodge for sale at £125,000

Committed to good park management

The Park runs several “Owners Events” throughout the year as well as holding the annual Garden Competition in July.

They are also very proud of achieving their 10th consecutive Gold Award in the “David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme”. The park is also now a member of the NCC Approved Holiday Parks scheme, showing the management’s commitment to good park management practice and customer service.
